THINGS FOR YOU TO KEEP IN MIND

  • It’s important to realize that misos are unable to tune out what we’d consider background noise

  • Individuals with misophonia have limited control over their reactions

  • Misos can’t simply “get over it,” so be mindful of what you say

  • Ask about special accommodations at school or work for misos you know

  • Remain calm during trigger noise situations

  • Know that the miso’s reaction to a trigger noise is toward the noise and not the person producing it

  • Though it may be hard at times, try not to take misos’ negative reactions personally

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

  • Visit online support groups and forums to gain more insight into misos’ experiences and feelings

  • Remain calm during trigger noise situations

  • When appropriate, ask about special accommodations at school or work for misos you know

  • If you see someone making producing a particular trigger with a miso you know nearby, speak up

  • Spread the word and educate others so they can be more mindful, too
